To do a side plank you lay on your side with your legs straight and your forearm on the floor perpendicular to your shoulders. The lift up your hips putting the weight on your elbow until your body creates a straight line from your feet to your shoulders. Hold this position as long as you can and gradually increase the count as you get stronger.

Doing the right exercises are only part of the toned abs equation. Many people have misconceptions as to how long and how often they should exercise to get the abs they want. You do not have to work your abs everyday to get great results. As with any exercise routine, ab workouts work best if they are done three to five days a week with periods of recovery in between exercise days. Many people also think that they should exercise their abs for half and hour or longer at a tie which is also untrue. A good ab exercise will give quality results in just a few minutes a day if you do the exercise correctly and choose quality moves.

Another common ab misconception is that you can only get a toned midsection by doing crunches and other exercises that specifically target the abdominals. It is possible to get a toned midsection with other forms of exercise that target your core such as Pilates. The exercise routines that target your core muscles but are still easy to do can give you toned abs if you stick with them.

Getting great abs does not have to be hard, you just have to find exercises that you enjoy and do them consistently.
